Second character of Echoes of Liberty

Klara Aldenburg

Is a young woman, of barely 16 in 1770. Her surname Aldenburg is reminder of her very first owner and she was born in the Netherlands. Because her mother was a slave Klara was a slave even before she was born. Her last owners the Dutch Von Den Brink freed her six years ago yet she has continued to serve on a temporary contract. The labor is hard, and physically exhausting at times the only silver lining is when the family has family from the Netherlands for annual visits. She wants nothing more than to be loved but doesn’t want to marry a slave.

The inspiration of Klara came from Sally Hemings, the Sally Hemings that was one of Thomas Jeffersons slaves.
